Evil Dead 2Dead By Dawn
RENAISSANCE PICTURES presents EVIL DEAD 2
When I was a kid, I loved "B" grade horror films. I mean, I couldn't get enough of them. I must have seen all the campy (no pun intended!) 80's "slice and dice" films at least once, with some many more times than that.
Arguably, Evil Dead 2 must be considered one of, if not the, best of the lot. It has all the ingredients that make a "B" grade movie great. Intelligent writing, good acting (Bruce Campbell for cryin' out loud!), and a very, very, very LOW budget!
Without a doubt, the best thing about any of the 'Evil Dead' series (save that of Army of Darkness, which is, in my opinion, much to comedic) has to be the atmosphere. You will cringe as the events unfold on the screen. The use of fish-eye lenses, eerie sounds, and some great acting by Bruce Campbell all help make this a must-rent movie.
Ok, without giving away the film, I will basically say that the story entirely (ok, ALMOST entirely) takes place in an isolated, run down cabin in the woods at night. The main character takes his girlfriend there for a night "alone", finds a tape recorder, plays the tape, and then, well, all hell breaks loose!
Not a bad way to spend 85 minutes of your life, just make sure that you have someone close to you that you can grab ahold of at various times throughout the film. Oh, I almost forgot, definately don't forget the beer, popcorn, and bandages!
'Evil Dead 2' is rated "R" for extreme violence, and brief (modeled) nudity.
