Lake Mead Recreation Area
Lake Mead, located about 40 minutes outside of Las Vegas, is southern Nevada's premiere lake.
Lake Mead was created by the largest dam ever built, the Hoover Dam. Lake Mead offers more than 1,000 miles of shorline, and has boundaries in three states. Lake Mead's primary tributary is the Colorado River, which feeds in directly from the Grand Canyon.
Lake Mead also sports a terrific visitor's center, modern beaches, boat launches, lakeside lodging, and even a trailor park and more than abundant camping and fishing areas.
